A.K.A. The Game Lab, where I talk about projects in gaming and modding.
Air Traffic!
Air Traffic! was my first official game, released in September 2016 for Android phones.
Title Screen. Like almost every other asset, it was created by me.
Gameplay from the final build. NemesisTheory was kind enough to let me use their song “Rose at Meridiem” in the final version. It was truly the cherry on top.
The initial mockup for the game. As development progressed, some of these ideas changed.
Basic movement was a small, but exciting first step in programming the gameplay.
Later on, the playable character and enemies were all set. From here, it was time to remove the placeholders!
Things were finally coming together. I replaced the placeholder wasp with a wasp that I modeled and animated. I even added health (a limit of three hits) and a score, which I ultimately found redundant compared to just time. I realized that it was difficult to survive much longer than two minutes, and I thought that was a reasonable scope for a small android game.
Scope was really the guiding light of this game. I wanted to make an interesting and somewhat unique project with the skills that I had learned up to that point. It was something that I wanted to create within a year. I would later struggle in vain to port the game to iOS. Turns out, it’s good to prepare for all intended platforms early in development.
Air Traffic is no longer available on the Play Store, but luckily I do still have the apk and development files.
